Malaria in Ethiopia
Between 1 January and 20 October 2024, over 7.3 million malaria cases and 1,157 deaths have been reported in Ethiopia. This is the highest number of annual cases recorded in the last seven years. The majority of cases (95%) were laboratory-confirmed, with Plasmodium falciparum accounting for more than two-thirds of the cases. Four regions account for 81% of reported case in 2024: Amhara, Oromia, Southwest and South Ethiopia Regional State. Please see the Malaria in Brief article below for further details on malaria.
Zika in Thailand
As of 1 November 2024, a total of 347 Zika virus cases, with no deaths have been reported across 42 provinces so far in 2024. Most cases have been in Central Region (106 cases). Please see the Zika virus in Brief article below for further details on Zika.
Mpox in Uganda
As of 30 October 2024, a total of 288 confirmed cases of mpox have been registered in Uganda, with one death. Cases have been reported in 29 districts. Clade Ib has been detected in the country. Please see the Mpox in Brief article below for further details on mpox.

As of 27 October 2024, the World Health Organization have reported a total of 8,607 mpox cases with 27 deaths in 2024. Mpox clade Ia and Ib have been reported. Please see the Topic in Brief article for further details on mpox.

Mpox in United Kingdom ex Africa
As of 30th October 2024, a single confirmed case of clade Ib mpox has been reported. The risk to the UK population remains low. This is the first detection of this clade of mpox in the UK.
