Yellow fever: updated country certificate requirements, 2022

The World Health Organization (WHO) have recently published updates to the country yellow fever recommendations and requirements for an International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP) (see Country List and Annex 1) [1, 2].

Key updates include:

  • New requirement for yellow fever vaccine certification (ICVP): Djibouti, Philippines, Qatar
  • Removal of requirement for yellow fever ICVP: Belize, Iraq, Jordan, Somalia, Sudan, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay
  • Addition or removal of transit information: Honduras, Pakistan, Paraguay
  • Changes to age requirement for ICVP: Honduras, Saudi Arabia
  • Other changes to requirement for yellow fever ICVP: China (Hong Kong and Macao), Egypt, Honduras and Paraguay.

NaTHNaC has updated the Country Information pages to reflect the WHO update.

We are in discussion with WHO regarding changes to the vaccine recommendations for some countries and will post a further news item if updates to current guidance/recommendations are required.

Advice for travellers

You should follow the latest foreign travel advice.

You can check the Country Information pages to see if yellow fever vaccination is recommended and/or yellow fever vaccination certificate (ICVP) is required for your trip.

You can search for your nearest yellow fever vaccination centre in England, Wales and Northern Ireland on our website. Yellow fever vaccination centres in Scotland can be found on the NHS inform website.

If you have a yellow fever certificate (ICVP), written to a 10-year validity, this should be accepted under International Health Regulations and should not be routinely re-issued.

Advice for health professionals

Health professionals should check our Country Information pages when advising travellers for details of yellow fever vaccine recommendations and requirements, as they may have changed. Health professionals can call the NaTHNaC telephone advice line for further assistance, if necessary.
