Meningococcal disease in United Kingdom

As of 17 March 2026, a total of nine confirmed meningococcal disease cases, with two deaths, have been reported in Kent. Some cases have been confirmed as group B meningococcal disease. A further 11 suspected cases are under investigation, bringing the total to 20 cases. A targeted vaccination programme has started and preventative antibiotic treatment is being offered to possible contacts as a precautionary measure.
